Great letter Gina. As a gay man unlearning patriarchy, internalised homophobia, transphobia, classism, racism, and probably some other stuff that I'm unintentionally unaware of (hm, is it grammatically correct? Forgive my Spanish ass) I can only say thank you. I know you wanted to keep it simple but, just wanted to tell you that I particularly struggle with the intersection of all this issues and religion and capitalism. It is something that always hits me when I think of how this system perpetuates and I hate how the American anticommunist discourse has spread out to a level that any action for social change is rejected. Ugh. Anyway, thanks for this. You're amazing.
These are all such complex systems to reconcile and understand, and the fact that you're trying and making it a part of your life is the key. Don't try and rush to understand it all or make it all 'neatly fit' together. Just continue your learning and you'll get there! x
Podcast recs as i believe more men would be willing to throw on a podcast than read a whole book: "The Mental Load" | Ladies, We Need to talk, "What makes a woman in women's sports" | Hormonal, "S2E1 with Laura bates" - Clementine Ford's Big Sister Hotline.
Great work, Gina. This breaks down the basics so well for those who are new. I have read some and am keen to read more of those books but most importantly, i really hope men pick them up. "Invisible women" has an important message and good data but i couldn't ignore the transphobia. Just a heads up to read it with a critical eye for anyone who hasn't.
I only wish it had been around 20 years ago, it would have saved me from so many unnecessary situations. It’s interesting to hear it from the point of view of a man, and I think it should be a resource for girls in schools too. We do not exist to ‘fix’ men, and that comes across loud and clear in his writing. Enjoy! 💖
Gina this is straight facts. Absolutely amazing read
Amazing read, thank you Gina. Gustav
Thank you so much for writing this Gina. I read it and felt every word! This is an important read for men and women alike!
I'm so glad you connected with it! x
Thanks Gina. You’re the G.
Other great resources:

Feminism Is for Everybody - bell hooks
And obviously - Gina’s own TED Talk

Have removed from the list! I read it years ago when it came out (probably not through a hugely intersectional lens) so thank you for that xxx
Hugely binary and fails to recognise other genders, you’re right. I thought it would be a good gateway book but maybe not. Xx
I came here to recommend Mask Off. Also, a good Instagram resource is @theconsciouslee
I've just ordered this, Thank you for the recc! And I love Lee!
